#JooksiU Presents: “Straight No Chaser – A No Nonsense Conversation about Jazz”

It’s time for our second installment of Jooksi University!

Everyone made our first class, WTF is Black Music, such a awesome success that we decided to follow it up by delving deeper into a subject we can’t talk enough about…jazz. We’re living in a fertile period of jazz brilliance, so this month we are bringing in accomplished jazz pianist/University of Pennsylvania Musicologist, Guthrie P. Ramsey, Jr to help us tune our ears to the sound of jazz today.

Join us for wine + a little talking + a lot of music.

Okay this is a late show on a Tuesday night. But if you can come out, you won’t be disappointed.

Next Collective is a like an all-star band of some of the best jazz musicians I’ve heard. It’s Logan Richardson on saxophone, Walter Smith III on saxophone, Kris Bowers, piano, Matthew Stevens on guitar, Gerald Clayton on keyboards, Ben Williams on bass, Jamire Williams on drums, and Christian Scott on trumpet. I’m a hardcore Kris Bowers, Jamire Williams, and Christian Scott fan.

They’re all serious musicians with amazing talent, but they’ve come together to do their own version of some of our favorite R&B/hip hop songs including: “Marvin’s Room” by Drake, “Africa” by D’Angelo, “Perth” by Bon Iver, and “No Church in the Wild” by Jay-Z/Kanye West/Frank Ocean. They’re album “Cover Art” drops on the 26th (the day of the show).

So if you’re in the mood for some fantastic jazz with a R&B/hip hop groove then I hope to see you Tuesday night.

Here’s a video link to a little more about them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dErFjbF71o8

Tix are $15 in advance and $18 the day of the show and can be purchased here.
