Meet Fredara: Jooksi Chief Music Evangelist

dancing dara

I’m a native Floridian transplanted in New York who loves football, beaches, food, and FAMU and wants to open a jook joint.

When I nursery school graduation program said that “Fredara¬†loves to sing, never runs out of words, and always does her work.”

I’m not sure if they were describing my behavior or prognosticating my future, either way it’s a completely accurate assessment.

Valentine’s Day: #TeamOverIt

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day and of course we have music to express our innermost feelings about love through song. But to be fair, I wanted to make sure those in or out of love – and in maybe between – had dope to listen.

Side Note: We see you Cupid and all your complicated ways.

Hey, sometimes love feels like the most soulful ballads. Well – *cough* – other times it’s as Marvin Gaye says in song, “but there were those other moments too…”

So I’ve taken the liberty to put together 2 playlists for #teamintoit and #teamoverit. Whichever side you find yourself on this particular day, shuffle and enjoy these tunes in no particular order. You deserve it.

And please don’t forget to share your personal favorites are whether they made our playlists or not.

Okay this is a late show on a Tuesday night. But if you can come out, you won’t be disappointed.

Next Collective is a like an all-star band of some of the best jazz musicians I’ve heard. It’s Logan Richardson on saxophone, Walter Smith III on saxophone, Kris Bowers, piano, Matthew Stevens on guitar, Gerald Clayton on keyboards, Ben Williams on bass, Jamire Williams on drums, and Christian Scott on trumpet. I’m a hardcore Kris Bowers, Jamire Williams, and Christian Scott fan.

They’re all serious musicians with amazing talent, but they’ve come together to do their own version of some of our favorite R&B/hip hop songs including: “Marvin’s Room” by Drake, “Africa” by D’Angelo, “Perth” by Bon Iver, and “No Church in the Wild” by Jay-Z/Kanye West/Frank Ocean. They’re album “Cover Art” drops on the 26th (the day of the show).

So if you’re in the mood for some fantastic jazz with a R&B/hip hop groove then I hope to see you Tuesday night.

Here’s a video link to a little more about them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dErFjbF71o8

Tix are $15 in advance and $18 the day of the show and can be purchased here.
